Archives of Ontario superseded and discontinued records schedules (RG 17-13)

1966-1998

Series consists of original copies and, in some instances, the Archives of Ontario's copies, of superseded and discontinued records schedules governing the disposition of government records. The schedules include a schedule number, the type of scheduling method used, the name of the records series and of the creating office, the records format and filing system, a description of the records and their purpose, the retention period for the records, access restrictions, the date range, the current volume and expected annual accrual, as well as the final disposition of the records (destruction or transfer to the Archives of Ontario). Recent schedules are signed by the Branch Director, the respective Ministry's Records Manager and Deputy Minister, and the Archivist of Ontario; other signatures, such as those of the Ministry's legal counsel, the Provincial Auditor and the Government of Ontario's Records Management Committee, have been requested at various times in the past. The series also includes correspondence between the Archives of Ontario, and records and office managers within the ministries, regarding the implementation of the schedules, as well as registers of discontinued schedule numbers.
